About
About Community Shelf
Community Shelf helps neighbours share what they grow, so good food reaches the next kitchen instead of the compost.
Why it exists
Backyard surplus goes to waste
A lemon tree or a curry-leaf plant gives more than one family can use. Without an easy way to share it, the extra ends up in the compost.
Fresh food is the first thing to go
When budgets tighten, fresh produce is usually the first thing off the list. A dollar packet, or a free one, puts it back.
Neighbours a few streets apart never meet
A shared shelf gives people a reason to say hello, trade tips and swap seeds.
What we believe
Neighbours first
Every packet has a real neighbour behind it, and every rule protects both sides.
Nothing goes to waste
Good food should reach the next kitchen, priced fairly or given away.
Simple and open
No stall, no sign-up fee, no special equipment. Post it, place it, and the shelf does the rest.
Trust is designed in
Reviews, labels, fair limits and privacy are built into how every shelf works.
Built and supported by
The Atlantic Labs
The Atlantic Labs is an IT consulting and product development company. Its team designs, builds and supports the Community Shelf software, and works with each host space to set up its shelf.
Host spaces run their own racks, counters and payouts, and decide their own opening hours and fees.
